What is The HATUA Foundation?

The HATUA Foundation is a non-profit, Bible-based, non-denominational Christian organization based out of the Twin Cities Minnesota that has a burning passion to partner with local communities in Tanzania, Africa. This partnership takes the form of developing self-sufficiency through education, farming, housing, spiritual growth, and other life skills to the people in these communities. The HATUA Foundation believes that this Holistic community development program is the road out of poverty to socio-economic self-sufficiency and independence.

What does "HATUA " mean?

HATUA, a Kiswahili word for "steps", seeks to encourage all of us to take a step to make a positive difference in the lives of individuals, families and communities. As an acronym, HATUA stands for Holistic Action for the Transformation of Underdeveloped Areas.

What is HATUA doing today?

The HATUA Foundation is currently working in Dodoma Tanzania where we are supporting 27 families with improved farming techniques. Each family has been able to increase the yield on their farms using a tractor purchased with the help of HATUA. This increased yield saw a 300% increase in the annual income of each family--in just one harvest. The tractor brought such great results--including an increase of self-esteem, pride, and accomplishment--even without fertilizers. The tractor helped them increase their yield to produce close to 30 bags of maze whereas before a normal harvest would only produce around 5-6 bags. Using their own land, they were able to produce as much maze as a farm of 50 acres, simply by updating their methods with the help and support of the HATUA Foundation.
